Boston's Back Bay In the spring, the magnolia and dogwood blossoms are in full bloom,
providing a striking contrast against the brownstones and wrought-iron gates.
In the winter, the bare branches on the stately trees are trimmed with snow
and icicles. In any season, Boston's Back Bay is enchanting. The neighborhood, a small eight-block area bounded by the Charles River, Beacon Hill, the South End and Massachusetts Avenue, is no longer populated solely by those with lineages traceable to the Mayflower. The Back Bay remains one of the most sought-after residential neighborhoods in Boston. Housing selections here are wide, with apartments and condominiums available, many of them carved out of what were once single-family homes belonging to the country's wealthiest residents. The homes still feature l0-foot-high ceilings, bay windows, working fireplaces, spacious rooms and breathtaking views. Throughout the decades, the Back Bay has retained its beautiful homes and historic aura.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts maintains a page of excellent links to further information on Boston here.
